Wild life in the Hudson Valley took a huge hit back in the late 60's and early 70's from pollution and others factors. Due to conservation efforts and the slow process of trying to clean the river up and protecting it wild life in the Hudson Valley is making a huge comeback, especially the waterfowl and other birds. You can't get out on the Hudson now and not see bald eagles, peregrine falcons or osprey's. Blue herons are common place. Norrie Point State Park and the adjacent Mills Mansion State park are particularly awesome places to catch a glimpse of some of the wildlife. There is a marina at Norrie also and my wife and I were down there along some friends of ours on their boat. We were all just standing on the dock watching the sun go down (It was a spectacular sunset) when this great blue heron landed on the point of rock right at the entrance to the marina. The river looked like it was on fire, the air was so fresh and clear. There was a slight breeze coming in off the river... It was one of those moments that just makes you stop in your tracks, shut your mind off and just be in the moment. Then that heron landed... I ran down to our boat grabbed my camera and just started shooting. I didn't bother checking any of the settings on the camera. I was lucky the settings were all about right and I got this spectacular shot that kind of catches the power of the moment. I hope it conveys that feeling
