Boating.... Boating is just something that gets in your blood, the earlier in life you start boating the worse it is. Photography is that way too. I got bit by both bugs BAD!, very early in life. I grew up on a lake right outside of Newburgh New York and my earliest memories are boating related. The photography bug bit when I was 11 on a boat trip with my parents in the Thousand Islands in upstate New York. I took a picture of a tanker coming around one of the islands up there with my Dad's Kodak Instamatic and I was hooked forever. I have photographing boats and boating adventures ever since. The Adirondack Mountains are a boaters paradise. There are so many lakes up there. One of the most well known is Lake George. Lake George is huge. It's 32 miles long and has an area of 32.62 square miles. It is known as one of the clearest and cleanest large lakes in the world. It is tucked in the mountains and the scenery around the lake is incredible. I sell prints and have sold several that I took up on Lake George. The boating on Lake George is fabulous but you better beware of the weather and what is going on. Storms can seem to come in out of nowhere. The lake gets like a tormented monster out to get you when that happens. I remember one time I was up there out on the lake in my boat with a couple friends of mine. We saw a storm coming in and headed back in. On our way we saw another boat broke down. We turned around and went back to see if we could help. We couldn't get him going and ended up towing him back in. The storm hit when we were still about a mile from the marina. The rain was coming down in sheets, the wind was howling and the wind driven rain felt like somebody was sticking a shotgun full of rock salt in your face. The waves? monstrous. Thank god people in the marina saw us coming and saw what was going on. We were able to get the towline to people on shore and they got the guy into the marina and helped me dock. We got in just in time. The cleat that the guy had tied the towline to on his boat was just about ripped out of the deck of his boat. I took this picture another time when I was up there but it reminds me of that day. This is what the sky turned to that day. The water was as calm as in this picture until the storm really caught us. I took this from a dock then my wife and I went and got back in the truck and left. Cant wait to get back up there again!
