As a veteran, I've learned to seek solace in the lens, capturing moments of tranquility amidst chaos. Transitioning to civilian life, I found myself overseeing a power plant in the heart of New York City. The job demanded long hours and unwavering attention, yet I found respite atop the plant's roof.

Those 12-hour shifts felt less daunting knowing I could steal moments on that rooftop. There, amidst the hum of machinery, I found my sanctuary. The city sprawled before me, a living, breathing entity of steel and dreams. Each dawn brought a new canvas of colors, painting the skyline with hues of pink and orange.

One particular morning stands etched in memory. The air hung still, the city draped in a serene silence. With my camera in hand, I captured the moment—the skyline ablaze with the soft glow of sunrise. In that fleeting instance, amidst the towering skyscrapers, I found peace.

Returning home after my shift, I carried with me the serenity of that morning. It's a paradox, I often muse, how a city teeming with life can also offer moments of profound calm.
