I shot this from The roof of the power plant I used to work at in Manhattan. I worked 12 hour shifts there. Being what the job was once you were on shift you were not allowed to leave til you were relieved by someone.That being said everybody in the plant knew I was a photographer and if it wasn't busy I'd be up on the roof or someplace in the plant taking pictures. This particular night I was down in the bowels of the plant just checking equipment when this buddy of mine called me on the radio and said "Alec, get up to the roof you gotta see what the sky looks like!" I was just finishing up my rounds so I ran back to where my camera was stashed and ran up to the roof just in time to catch this golden hour shot of the Empire State Building and the surrounding towers. It was one of those nights in New York where every sound carries and sounds clear as a bell but yet is oddly quiet. There was almost no humidity. The air was crystal clear. The day had been the same kind of day 9/11 was, crystal clear, not a cloud in the sky and when it got to golden hour the colors were just spectacular. Plus, as you can see in the pictures the Empire State Building was lit in orange and it just added to the shot. I took the shot plus a few more and just stood there taking it in. I got on the radio and told the rest of the guys to come on up to the roof. The guys that could did and we all just stood there taking it in and shooting the breeze. We probably stayed up there a good hour or so. It was a good watch team and this picture always brings back good memories of times had. . Production and Shipping Time:
